WEEK OF JUNE 4-14

English Presentation (Group Speaking Test)

Rules for speaking test:

n      June 4~14, during regular class time

n      You do not need to attend the whole class.  Come only at your presentation time.

n      In a group of 3 or 4 students

n      6-8 minutes

n      This presentation will be half of your score for the final test:  Speaking test = 15%

   Written test    = 15%

You have 2 choices for your style of test:

  1. Choose a Korean song that your group likes.  Write a short paragraph explaining the song’s subject, message, theme, the singer(s) and any other important information.

Next, use the same melody of the Korean song, but write English lyrics (가사) to replace the Korean lyrics.  Your group will sing the English version of the song for me.  You should not translate the Korean lyrics exactly, but try to write English lyrics that have a similar meaning.

Give me a copy of the original Korean lyrics and your own English lyrics.

2.       Choose a famous traditional Korean folk tale or myth (민간설화, 전설, 신화) that all members of your group know.  Translate the story into English and give me a copy of your translation.  Do NOT copy your translation from the internet or a book.  Your group members will then perform the story as a play/skit.  Each member will act as one character of the story.

On the presentation day, you can read your lines from a paper, but you will get a better score if you memorize (remember) what to say.

All members of the group will get the same score on the typed copy of the presentation, but will get different scores for how they speak

Your score will based on these points:

INDIVIDUAL
pronunciation, fluency                 1 point
clear, understandable                 2 points
body language & naturalness      1 point
memorization/reading                 3 points

GROUP
paper copy of assignment:     2 points
timing (6-8 minutes):             3 point
grammar                              3 points
TOTAL                             15 points
